More than mounting a charger
Adding EV charging to your property involves more than mounting a charger. Electrical capacity, permits, underground services, parking layouts, and site restoration all need to work together.
ProQual Construction manages the complete scope, from initial assessment and design coordination through installation, inspections, and handover. We coordinate the trades and construction so you don't have to manage separate contractors.
Whether you're adding charging to an existing property or planning it into a new development, we help you build a practical solution for today with room to expand.
What We Handle
Planning and Design Coordination
We review the property, the people who will use the chargers, charger locations, parking layout, available electrical capacity and room for future expansion, then coordinate the assessment and any required design before construction begins.
Permits and Utility Coordination
We coordinate applicable permits and work with electrical professionals, utility providers and inspectors. Where needed, we evaluate service upgrades and load-management options appropriate to the site.
Civil and Site Work
Trenching, excavation, underground conduit, equipment foundations, charger bases, bollards and other site modifications, planned around site access and your ongoing operations.
Electrical and Charger Installation
We coordinate qualified electrical trades for wiring, panels, distribution and charger connections, with equipment selected based on how the chargers will be used and the power available.
Restoration and Finishing
Concrete, asphalt, landscaping, line painting and signage within the agreed scope, so the site is left finished rather than patched.
Testing and Handover
Required inspections, commissioning, system setup, operating information and project documentation at handover.

Plan for Future Charging Needs
The City of Edmonton identified EV-ready development as a priority in its Climate Resilience Planning and Development Action Plan, including preparing zoning requirements to help new sites and buildings accommodate future charging.[1]
The City's 2026 study forecasts a substantial increase in public charging needs and highlights the importance of workplace charging and multi-unit residential retrofits.[2]
These are planning directions and forecasts, not a blanket deadline requiring every property to install chargers.
Consider charging while other work is underway
Installing conduit, electrical distribution and space for equipment during construction or renovation can reduce disruption and repeated work later.
ProQual can help plan a phased approach: install what you need now and prepare for future expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my building need an electrical service upgrade?
Not necessarily. A site assessment determines the available capacity. Depending on the site, load management or a phased installation may be alternatives to a service upgrade.
Can chargers be added to an existing property?
Yes, subject to site conditions, electrical capacity and approvals. We assess retrofits to determine what is practical for the property.
Are permits required?
Yes. City of Edmonton guidance requires an electrical permit and inspection for EV charger installations, supported by a load calculation or energy management system plans. Other approvals may also apply depending on the project.[3]
Should we install Level 2 or DC fast chargers?
It depends on how long vehicles are parked, users' charging needs, available capacity and budget. We coordinate an equipment assessment to help you choose.
Can ProQual handle trenching and restoration too?
Yes. We manage the entire agreed scope, including civil work, electrical coordination, installation and site restoration.
Is funding available?
Funding programs and eligibility change over time. Check current programs before committing to a project. Rebates and grants are not guaranteed.
